Have you been thinking about paying someone to optimize your website in a quest to drive sales or opt-ins? Before you do, consider a few things you can do yourself to get that laser targeted web traffic.
First, why would you want and what is “targeted” web traffic? Simply put, if you are selling “yellow widgets for women”… do you want a person just typing search for “widgets” or someone looking for a “women yellow widget”?
Which leads to step one…
Step 1) “Targeted” Keyword Selection
Of course this is assuming you know who your customer is (if not then start by identifying “who” the customer is). Targeted traffic comes for targeting “certain” search term. Get specific by using a service like Google Keyword Tool (which is free – do a search). Place your sites URL in there and see what comes up. Pick a couple of terms that are specific, have search volume and not “too” competitive.
Step 2) On-Page “Targeted” Optimization
If you want targeted web traffic then tell the search engines just that. There is much more to this than mentioned here but… in a nut shell do a couple of things now and get more information to “optimize”. Right now you can a) place the targeted keyword term in the title tag. b) Use it in the description tag. c) Create your content using the term and “bold it” once in the copy. d) For a quick entry into the SERPs… buy a domain with the “targeted keyword” but… fail to do the next step and it may be short lived…
Step 3) Off-Page Optimization
This one can be tedious and time consuming. Which is why many will not do it, giving you an edge in getting the web traffic you want… “targeted” backlinks. Some backlink sources are much more valuable than others (not to be dealt with here). One thing that is usually common among the backlinks that help you get the targeted web traffic is that they have your keyword term as the “anchor text”.
That’s it in a nut-shell… To get free “Targeted Web Traffic” you can 1) Use targeted keywords; 2) Optimize Your Page for the term; 3) Use Backlinks with “Targeted” anchor text.
There is much more to optimizing you website and getting the specific traffic you want. Possibly the best source is from Jerry West who by his own admission is a “tracking and testing” geek.
Some of what he has proven is confidential and I can not reveal his secrets because of a “non-disclosure” agreement… However, you can find out for yourself. Get the specific steps to driving targeted web traffic to your site here at Jerry West’s SEORevolution
